Assured Data Protection's Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge - Mid-Challenge Progress Update

In April & May 2021 the UK division of Assured Data Protection decided to take on the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge to raise money for our company charity of the year, Dementia Forward.

The Assured office is based in Yorkshire, but not all us live locally and since this takes around 12 hours (if you do it all in one go!), we encouraged the team to do the equivalent to the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, 23 miles, in their local areas. We hope to have fun, get family and friends involved, enjoy the outdoors and most importantly raise money for this amazing cause :)

For everyone at Assured that completes the three peaks or the equivalent 23 miles, our CEO Simon kindly agreed that he will donate £50. So far, 7 ADP staff have taken on the challenge, with many more planning to undertake the peaks over the next 2 weeks. So that means that our total raised by staff so far is £350, and with the generous donations from friends, family and colleagues we are up to an amazing £545!

We are so proud of the amount raised so far and know it will make such a difference to Dementia Forward. With just less than 2 weeks to go until the end of the challenge we would love to raise even more for this fantastic charity, so if you would like to donate please click the link to visit our fundraising page: https://donate.giveasyoulive.com/fundraising/adps-yorkshire-3-peaks-challenge

Melissa MacDougall, who undertook her 23 miles last weekend with three of her friends explains what the challenge means to her, and why Dementia Forward was chosen as our charity of the year:

How did you find the challenge?  It was a breeze until the real breeze came, and then the rain, and then the cold! But I was surrounded by good people and we got through it. It was nice to have a catchup and talk about the amazing charity and why we were doing something that none of us normally would.

Why did you want to do the challenge? I wanted the company to do the challenge for many reasons: to get people outside which is good for mental health, to do something different with colleagues, friends and family, and as we are a Yorkshire-based company it was great to make the most of where a large proportion of our employees live. Overall I think it has been a great challenge for the whole team and has created great morale within Assured Data Protection. Having worked closely with Dementia Forward over the past year I am so proud of everyone who has taken on the challenge because I know how much it will mean not only to Dementia Forward, but the many people they help.

Five of our Technical team, Chris L, Chris M, Luke, Dan and Richard also completed their challenge this weekend and really enjoyed the experience in the beautiful setting that is the Yorkshire 3 Peaks. Great work team!

Dementia forward is experiencing rapid demand, 10,000 people in North Yorkshire alone are living with Dementia and sadly 5793 people go without being diagnosed. Dementia Forward have pointed 2603 people to get support as well as helping 7291 people living with dementia. We hope to help and support Dementia Forward which provides the below services to those living with dementia and related illnesses:

  • Support advisors
  • Well-being activities
  • Helpline
  • Specialist nurses
  • George Armitage House
